Petition to: Respect the result of the Irish referendum and abandon the attempt to ratify the Lisbon Treaty.

The above link is a petition on the Downing Street Website over the Lisbon treaty and that even though Ireland rejected it, our government is trying to force through.

"Last Friday the people of Ireland voted to reject the Lisbon Treaty.

The treaty should now be dead but politicians across Europe are refusing to accept the result. They arrogantly insist that the Treaty must go ahead anyway. Despite the no vote, the UK Government is planning to carry on regardless, and ratify the Treaty in the House of Lords on Wednesday.

This is part of an attempt to isolate and bully the people of Ireland."

Please just give a moment to sign this petition to try and stop this undemocratic process carry on or at least send a strong message that we the public are disgusted with this process. These petitions are viewed by the government.

25,000 signatures, yes, that'll worry them!

If 2 and half million votes for UKIP in 2004 didn't make them stay awake at night, why should this be any more of headache?

It's currently the 2nd most signed petition on the petitions website. For something that's been up for about a week, that's pretty good going!

So, second to another probably easily ignored petition.

How many signatures were handed in for the Iraq war, or any host of other issues over the years?

Really, what on earth is the point if there is nothing in place to make a government take notice? It's not like in certain countries where a petition can demand a referendum on this or that, say like in Switzerland. They have no power here, so may as well be printed on toilet paper, since they will be given a sh*tty response and go down toilet anyway.

Even so it's better to have tried and failed than not to have bothered at all.

It's better to try - and fail - butting your head through a brick wall? No, it is not. It is better to stand back, realise what exactly is achievable and what is not, then that would save an awful lot of time, money and drained out activists being encouraged to achieve something completely out of their reach - and petitions belong in the bin, where the politicians no doubt dump them anyway.
