Ganley is not "anti-EU" - or so he was saying.

No ,but he is clearly anti the way it is run ,he is pro -democracy,pro referendum ,and anti power grab or so it would seem. He is moving in the right direction and hopefully more trustworthy than the Tories and 100% more professional than UKIP.

We in Libertas will now reflect on the message from the Irish people, and begin the process of looking to build a positive alternative to the direction Europe is taking.

Oh I think it is a little early to start talking of calibre of MEPs and such. Organizing a political party to operate across the whole of the EU in less than a year is going to be a real challenge particularly when you factor in different languages and all. I think it will prove incredibly difficult to keep the various national branches under control and in line especially when you consider the language barrier. In the circumstances I can forsee MEP candidates of "not the highest calibre" slipping through onto the party list.

This is a re-run of the Coneservative slogan "In Europe but not run by Europe" Clearly it willl be a distraction from UKIP and will get publicity but in fact it is an attempt to attract the on the Conservative eurosceptic.

Richard Allen: What do you mean, 'People who are simply anti Lisbon have the Tories to vote for'. It was the Tories who got us into this mess, and they will not get us out.
The chances must be high that 'Lisbon' could be in force by the next elections, that could be seen by some as a reason to vote for Ganley. What is the alternative?

In my opinion you're absolutely right!

Furthermore, he is forming a supranational political party, helping the EU immensely by breaking down the political borders.

UKIP is unable to work with people in all EU states and doesn't agree with many of the members of the IDG. The failed ITS is a sign of how 'nationalist' groups with a common interest cannot work together.

It is possible that Eurosceptics within Mr Ganley's party will have more success by putting the brakes on the EU than withdrawalists who are unrealistic in their political aspirations and dream of a quick fix.

The question is, is it better to campaign for withdrawal when the main party lacks political credibility and is possibly imploding or to campaign for a better deal in the interim period?

If Lisbon is halted then 40+ vetoes are not lost, the embedding of the infrastructure of an EU superstate grinds to a halt and we are still able to move for withdrawal at a later stage. If Lisbon goes through then we are unlikely to recover our vetoes, we are uinlikely to win on the withdrawal issue and we won't have many friends in the EU to work with.

It might be that the art of the possible is more important than sticking our heads in the sand and pretending that we have the resources and support to fight the EU elections and to win more seats than we currently have.

Has UKIP got £75 million pounds ready for next year? I suspect UKIP hasn't got pledges of £750,000. Will UKIP get international coverage? Will the UKIP message get across in this country with limited resources? UKIP was heavily funded at the last Euro elections and had RKS, a well known public figure, in the frontline. This time UKIP has no major high profile names and has nowhere near as much money.

Watch this space.
