Thanks to the EU.

How much further can they go?

The government proposals actually go further than what the EU had in mind, and there's talk that the EU might actually strike these down. If that happens, then the EU goes up in my estimation.

why does the Post Office let alone the council need to look at my email and which websites I visit? What are these "much wider purposes"? With the PO, I really cannot see any purpose they could want any of my emails/www history. Nor can I see why councils would want to know either.

I suppose that they will come up with some **** and bull excuse along the lines of trying to prevent child abuse, fraud etc and whilst these do definitely need to be stamped out, I suspect that there are police units that can do this somewhat more efficiently than the Post Office.

The solution to this is in our hands. Attach a footer to all your e-mails and in that footer put some key words - Bin Laden, Semtex, Allah, airliner, and similar are all suitable. Add 'teenyporn' and similar if you feel up to it.

This will hopefully ensure your e-mails DO get snooped, and we can overload the system! :-)

Not long ago on a light aircraft forum frequented by mainly Americans I was advised that using the word 'bomb' could be a bit dicey.

Just for a laugh I then filled my next post with most of the key words C steam has used plus a few others. You wouldn't believe the private messages I received. I was mainly accused of not taking America's war on terror seriously, but one went on to tell me how lucky I was to have such a damn fine Prime Minister who was working hard to secure our freedoms.

No knocks on the door yet!

...but I bet there is a file on you though! Probably there is one on every poster on this forum, as we/you could be considered a terrorist, political subversive, mail robber etc etc

Why not just include the whole lot and get a higher credit rating than Bin Laden himself?

Does that apply to users of Hotmail or Yahoo? Would they go direct to the people running these websites or pressurise the local service providers?
