British police-state>Spy state Britain - at a Council near you

The state is to extend its spying activities by giving local Councils the power to spy on peoples' emails and internet use, under new government proposals
Chillingly, a newspaper report says `although first proposed to tackle terrorism and serious crime, powers have been extended to cover other criminal activity, public health, threats to public safety and even prevention of self-harm'.
`Threats to public safety.' Am I mistaken or weren't there `Public safety committees' during the French Revolution? Naturally, they didn't exist to protect the safety of the public, they existed to protect the safety of the state.
Who defines what is public safety? A local Council Stasi , un-elected by the people but with the power to control peoples' lives?
`Prevention of self-harm'. Who defines what is self-harm? Is it physical self-harm or is it any kind of activity which might be interpreted as self-harm?
Expressing certain opinions can be interpreted as self-harm. They can be interpreted as harming the `stability' of the person that expresses these views.
The proposals almost certainly conflict with the European parliament's attitude towards the individual's right to privacy.
Councils get power to spy on your email and net use

Holy ****, I had no idea it was this bad already:

Another example was given in which a UK citizen had been talking in an internet chatroom about self-harming, when local police tracked down his address via his IP number and ISP and intervened to save him.

"Details emerged in the government consultation paper published yesterday on plans for implementing an EU directive developed after the 7/7 London bombings."

Create the problem (i.e carry out the attack)

Demand a reaction (i.e say the muslims are attacking us)

Provide the solution (we need to take your freedom to protect your freedom)

Every time.....

"Records of every e-mail, internet session and telephone call made over the internet will be stored for a minimum of 12 months with police, local councils and other organisations able to access the details."

minimum of 12 months = for ever.

other organisations = private organizations that may commit identity fraud or other criminal acts on the population.

Frankly, I'm suprised some people are objecting - what do you expect when you're not willing to even examine state terrorism which is staring you in the face ?

You wanted to believe government was inept and no way possibly criminal and you were part of some elite or maybe just better than the "conspiracy theorists".

Well you wanted 1984.

Now you got it.

Quit complaining.
