British Politics & Other Parties>Boris - another celeb coming our way?
C_steam 10:16 PM 13-11-2004
Since Boris has now been sacked from his two Tory positions as party vice chairman (no pun intended :-) ) and shadow arts minister (isn't this the always vacant job in Harry Potter?) one has to wonder whether this commited Euro-sceptic and supporter of britishness will wander over to UKIP.

Gosh - could have a three way election contest, Boris, Nige and RKS!

He will get another chance in the shadow cabinet in a year or two when the fuss has died down.

I posted the stuff below before realising that there was already anothe "Boris" thread so some of it may be slightly out of context.

Michael Howard has sacked Boris Johnson ostensibly for having an affair with Petronella Wyatt (lucky sod) as a consequence of which she had an abortion; or so it is reported. In the scale of things if true, thisis not a particularly heinous offence. Did Boris lie about this? Or, was he just trying to keep his private life private. Does it matter?

Personally I find Boris amusing, he's not the buffoon that he likes us to think.

His real crime one suspects is publishing articles in the Spectator which embarrass the Tories, a party which one would have thought were wildly beyond any possibility of being embarrassed.... a treacherous discredited rabble lurking in a political no mans' land. Boris might describe them as being intergalacticly incompetent and unelectable ...in time maybe he will. Boris is the only Tory MP who shows any sign of being human. His sacking is just another step along the road to oblivion for the Tories and the sooner the better.

Anyway best of luck Boris, the Spectator is one of the few periodicals worth reading today and it took some err.............. balls to go up to Scouseland and apologise.

Is there a place in UKIP for Boris? Would he get on with Kilroy and Nigel?

He is one of the few Tory MP's I had a smidgin of respect for. He says what he thinks, and adds a human face to an otherwise stuck up profession. Unfortunately speaking your mind can get you in trouble, and he was silly to allow that article on Liverpool to come out at the time it did. Indeed why did he single out Liverpool?

His affair, and subsequent lies to Howard have damaged him also, but they have moved him closer to peoples idea of what a mainstream polititian is. A liar, a cheat, and focused on his own self-interest too much.

I'd rather he stayed put, as the Tories are exactly the party that represent his kind of behaviour of late.

Boris seems like a good guy. I reckon the chances are that he'll stay with the Tories until they ask him back INTO phpbb_the Shadow Cabinet. However, UKIP should definitely sound him out now about whether he wants to defect. If you don't ask, you don't get!
