Last year, after the arrest of a suspected terrorist in Gloucester, Mr Blunkett made a remark which linked the man to al-Qaeda. After it was suggested that the Home Secretary might be in contempt of court, Lord Goldsmith, QC, the Attorney-General, had to put out a statement in which he said that the remarks did not “create a substantial risk of serious prejudice to any proceedings”.

Yesterday, Patrick Mercer, an opposition spokesman, said: “It’s interesting that whenever I have said anything in my capacity as homeland defence spokesman which has trodden close to the line [on contempt], Mr Blunkett’s department has been very quick to point out the dangers of overstepping the mark. I hope that he is not guilty of such an offence.”

I find it very strange that with all the security lapses at Royal institutions, parliment buildings etc by unorganised protesters, added to obvious weak spots that can never be totaly defended such as railway crossings, and busy motorways, that we have never had an attack by islamic terrorists.

Makes you wonder if the whole issue has been blown up out of all proportion, in order to keep the plebs in line and allow this current bunch of proven liars to push through their own agenda.

Or is it that we a remarkably lucky, and the secret securtiy so efficient that they remove the threat before we even know its there, and let the less dangerous protests go.

I know which one I tend to believe!
