Britannist 08:34 PM 21-08-2007
The Cameron-led Conservatives have probably lost the next General Election writes the former special adviser to Lady Thatcher, John O' Sullivan, over at Conservative Home today:

For those readers who don't want to read the whole article over at Conservative Home I've just written up this summary of what I think are the main parts:

Mr. O’Sullivan (in his article for Conservative Home today) observed of ‘Project Cameron “Its first phase—“I’m a Celebrity, Get Me out of Opposition”—never really took. It won few converts and gave a general impression of frivolity and cynicism which Brown has shrewdly exploited.”

He added “Project Cameron has not really improved matters but, on the other hand, the crisis of Toryism was never as deep as the more masochistic modernisers believed.”

On the EU Mr. O’Sullivan pointed out “Almost any response would be better than the current Tory attitude of primly averting one’s gaze, like a maiden lady frightened by something nasty in the woodshed, whenever these topics intrude on polite political conversation.”

The UK’s future is with Asia, North America and the Anglosphere, Mr. O’Sullivan stated. He commented “It is one with better prospects of ultimate electoral and practical success than the necrophiliac policy of merging gradually into some new European semi-state entity.”

We all know the tories are going to lose anyway cameron has no intention of giving the public a different govenment that puts the people and the UK first all he and the three main partys care about is the gravy slopping paypackets and pensions they will get if they sign the UK over to the EU!!!.

I think John O'Sulivan is onto something here!

From his blog piece linked above, by Brittanist:

But a willingness to be intellectually and politically adventurous would make the Tories exciting again.

An idea for UKIP to nick perhaps?

I think they're already there! I've stated for sum time that Westminster MPs are nothing more than highly paid EU administrators!

Agree with much of that but I'm afraid when someone says 'Anglosphere' I reach for my machine-gun.

Code for cuddling up to that moron Bush and his mob of Yank jingoists.

I once drove John O'Sullivan from Oxford to London cooped up in the back of my little Spitfire (car not plane :-))

Certainly the polls point to a healthy Labour majority at the moment

Whoever wins they have a great challange ahead of them tackling the key social problems this country faces and making our public services fit for the 21st Century. The govrnment will also have to decide how we stop the housing market permantely spiraling out of control and how many more raods we can build to accomodate the large ammount of cars we now have.

There will be, praise the Lord a New President in America either just after or before we elect a new government. I hope that a more constructive relationship that benefits Britian can be achieved rather than blindly following the George Bush approach to Foreign Policy which has been the biggest disaster since Hitlers parents decided to start a family. Speedy withdrwal from Iraq is a must.

Too true.

Bush is right up there with Hitler and Stalin. I'm surprised nobody has tried to rub him out.

They will certainly lose the next election unless they promise to radically strengthen the British military.

Moving this thread back to the top. If a week is a long time in politics, what about a year. Look at the posts above and see how quickly things have changed.

Is there any poster above who believes Brown is set to crush Cameron? House prices spiralling out of control????????????????????
