I note the death as occurred of a REAL Labour great, Leo Abse.
Leo Abse, an MP from ’58 to ’87 died on the 20th aged 91.
A Welsh MP and a Welshman, though a passionate opponent to devolution, Leo Abse was born and educated initially in Cardiff, and later at the LSE.
He was a man with a brilliant mind and someone who by his actions in parliament achieved real progress for true morality in society.
The world is a lesser place with his passing.

True morality, legalizing buggery, maybe your values are not the ones of many others. While not wishing any harm to anyone my friend , i still believe after all these years of liberal enlightenment , most of us still view what they get up to a disgusting. After all we are on this planet for one reason ,to reproduce. You only need to look at the entertainment industry, very much not representative of the rest of us.

Personally I think the death of Ronnie Drew, lead singer with The Dubliners, is a far bigger loss.

The sheer bigotry and even hatred of too many on this form is beyond belief.
Here we are dealing with a good man, a GREAT man, one of the few real politicians who never forgot that politics and statesmanship should never be separated and what response?
That he played a key role in the repealing of a law that should never have been on the statute books in the first place.
How about some of the other work that Abse did. His charity work for one thing, Married for 40 years he re-married after the death of his first wife when he was 83!
A prolific author, critical in measure of both Thatcher and Blair in addition to being a lawyer he was a skilled psychoanalyst, a thing he used to great effect in some f his books.
Another book written by Abse, possibly out of a wicked sense of fun, a thing for which he was (in)Famous was titled “Fellatio, Masochism, Politics and Love”, in which he explored the possibility of “the repressed homosexual components of the relationship between Gordon Brown and Tony Blair".
I suspect he liked neither of them. Probably that he was a man of honesty and principle was a key factor in that.
In spite of remaining a back bench MP Abse was successful in getting more socially reforming legislation in place than any other individual recent times MP.
A great man, a great loss, and all small minds can think about is one aspect of his life’s work.
In a lesser man it could be seen as his magnum opus, but for Leo Abse it was just one good thing amongst so very much.

Once again bear , you dont reply ,to what people say, maybe with your utterances you come across as ,small minded ,bigoted, unable to understand , another viewpoint. I could go on the list is endless. For you to imagine , anything worthwhile, comes out of that London gravy train, called the house of commons, confirms your true coulors

Difficult to believe what I'm reading here - or is it deliberately provocative? Leo Abse was a socialist who was opposed to Britain as he found it - the Britain our ancestors fought for and created over two thousand years. He was a supporter of an alien ideology and introduced and supported socially and politcally destructive legislation into our holy island. He should be drawn and quartered and burnt.

Well gregory , thats a bit extreme. i was just trying to be objective. In replying to bear. What you have said could apply to many in the house of commons.BTW we stopped corporal punishment in the sixties. Even after 40 years of liberal brainwashing by the traitors, i still believe , most people would vote for it.BTW what are you doing in UKIP with views like that.
