You are suggesting either that the government would not protect Muslims if they were attacked, or that members of the British Army would disregard orders to protect British Citizens.

Either way, it's everyman for himself if the government cannot be counted on to protect British citizens.

There is some evidence to suggest the Army came within an ace of launching a coup against the Wilson government in 1974 in reaction to the catastrophic collapse of the British economy. A situation which is bound to be exceeded in its severity in the very near future.

The British Army is not friends with the British government, which is why so much of it is keep as far away from Westminster as is possible, usually in Germany but failing that absolutely anywhere that will allow British troops to be stationed there.

Standing Armies are dangerous things, a lesson often forgotten in the West outside the USA. Theoretically the only thing apart from self restraint between a government and the Army is the support of the citizenry. In Britain today Parliament could rely on almost no citizens to stand against the Army in its defense. The Westminster government rules by consent of the General Staff, it would be foolish to assume that consent is unconditional.

The single most dangerous thing any government can do is order its troops to open fire on its citizens, for this British government to do that in defense of Muslim communities would be almost certainly literally suicide for the elite.

As for the common soldiery's comradeship with their Muslim brothers, what few Muslims serve in the British Army, as I understand it, mostly do so with the intelligence sections not the rank and file line regiments. Moreover there is an ancient suspicion among the ranks that the enemies of Britain frequently sign on in order to receive weapons training and instruction in Army tactics. Traditionally this legend was applied to Irish nationalists but I don't doubt that it has been updated.

The "British" Muslim community has gone out of its way to antagonize the Army, they would be well advised to redouble their prayers that they never need its protection.

Other ethnic communities have banked nowhere near as much hatred as the Islamic, however in the case of the sort of meltdown I'm talking about supporting the wrong football team might well be a capital offense so being regarded as an outsider will almost certainly be fatal.

If I were a member of an ethnic minority at this point I would be cashing in and shipping out, just like the more farsighted elements of the Jewish community did in 30's Germany. There are no good reasons to run the risks of being an immigrant in a collapsed economy and plenty of reasons not to.
