Indeed and here is Farage confirming it.
"Once its membership had been depleted, the BNP would wither as it lost momentum, he said".

If I ever join the staff of Searchlight magazine then you should remind me about Gerry Gable's conviction for burgling the office of holocaust denier David Irving. Meanwhile Daft Fan seems interested to know what sort of party he has joined, and I'm telling him it is one whose senior officials include former henchmen of Blackshirt leader Oswald Mosley.

Well, I just wasted 5 minutes of my life reading the article you linked, and it doesn't say that the purpose of UKIP is to "split the genuine anti EU/BNP vote" at all. Farage is only quoted as saying that many BNP voters are eurosceptics who have justifiable concerns about immigration, might not actually like the violence and racism of the BNP and might therefore be persuaded to vote UKIP instead. Can I have my 5 minutes back, please?
:-)

Of course the party you joined last had a Prime Minister who was a great admirer and friend of Adolf Hitler.

None of this is a secret, Tom.
Bean wrote a very readable autobiography, Many Shades of Black, in 1999.
Our very own Adrian Davies wrote a review for Right Now! in 2001:

If I have a criticism of the book, it is it does not have a Reference Section.

The Blackshirts were members of the British Union of Fascists.
Mr.Bean was never a member of the B.U.F.
The Public Order Act outlawed the wearing of Blackshirts in 1936,when Mr.Bean was 9 and accordingly to the link you provided he was "largely apolitical".

I was using the word 'blackshirt' more loosely to refer to any follower of Oswald Mosley in one of the parties he led from the British Union of Fascists onwards.

Exactly.
Wikipedia's account of John Bean is incorrect. Not surprising considering Wikipedia also once claimed that David Beckham was a 17th century Chinese footballer.
In an interview with Nick Griffin on the
John Bean-A True Nationalist DVD, John bean admits that he once supported Communism in a class exercise at school....
John Bean has been involved in Nationalist activism since his late teens.
