He was our PM in World War 1; he did not know Hitler then. :-) As published foreign office documents of the late 1920's do not generally pay too much attention to Hitler I doubt that Lloyd George was aware of Hitler at all whilst he was prime minister at the beginning of the 1920's.

Lots of people met Hitler before 1939 and in all sorts of circumstances. Some silent movie does not mean that Lloyd George "loved Hitler" as you stated. So, sorry no touche and no need for a history lesson. Unless it is you who is in need of a history lesson from 1940. Or are you in fact an admirer of Marshal Petain?

If only you had made some sensible comments rather than stating that Lloyd George "loved Hitler" I suspect we might've been in broad agreement but you just wanted to get in a slur about the Liberal Party regardless of historical accuracy.

So you didnt read his newspaper article I posted just ignored it?
As for Petain (no idea what this has to do with it) Lloyd George saw himself as the Petain of England read what he said on him "waiting for Churchill to be a busted flush

Lloyd George led Britain through a terrible and bloody war, and I imagine that the deaths of millions of soldiers under his authority must have played on some part of his conscience. I suppose it is understandable that later (in his mid 70s) he succumbed to some of the then very common wishful thinking about Hitler, that he wanted to believe that we wouldn't have to go to war in Europe again. Apparently this delusion didn't last very long. According to the Wikipedia article about Lloyd George:

Despite this embarrassment, however, as the 1930s progressed Lloyd George became more clear-eyed about the German threat and joined Winston Churchill, among others, in fighting the government's policy of appeasement.

So please remind me, BC - what were you trying to prove? That Lloyd George was a closet Nazi and that the Liberal Party is therefore a bastion of totalitarianism?

Closet potential collaborator no doubt.
The Liberal party has always been the enemy within.
Whether opposing re-armament or promoting mass immigration.
