Brief extract from the article in the first posting to this thread:
"George Osborne was accused of distancing himself from David Cameron and the modernisers in the party. Mr. Osborne, the shadow Chancellor is a close friend of the Tory leader and has been a leading architect of the modernisation of the Tory Party in an attempt to widen its appeal."

I always hoped that David Davis would lead the Tories. I think he has more voter appeal and he reminds me of Tebbit in his attitudes and gravitas.
Cameron and Osbourne are replaying the Blair and Brown scenario IMHO and it seems probable that Osbourne is doing a 'Gordon'-preparing for a possible leadership contest but saying just enough to appear both loyal and individualistic.
It's crunch time for Cameron: Put up or shut up.

William Hague was my man until he uttered those stupid words, "In Europe but not run by Europe"

Unfortunately none of them will do anything to get Britain out of the EU , they all toe the party line on Europe. None of them are committed enough to put their job on the line and say, " Britain must leave the EU"! If Brown wins the next GE comfortably I fear a one party state aided and abetted by the EU!

"In europe but not run by europe" is a bit like the Soviet puppet-regime that ran the Ukraine up to 1991 telling the people of that land "In the Soviet Union but not run by the Soviet Union."
In other words, not at all convincing.

David Cameron was shown on the television news earlier this evening arriving for the Conservative Party conference in Blackpool saying "The fightback begins here."
A UKIP friend of mine just said to me on the telephone "It's a bit late for that now."
