Do you happen to have the date of the quote in the last posting to this thread, Eurosceptic Atlanticist?
Was it from the web blog of Mr. Hitchens or from his actual column in the Mail on Sunday?
I have read what you quote before and I think I saw it on his web blog.

The quote is from an e-mail he sent to me on the 3rd of January 2007. If you like I can forward the e-mail on to you.
I expect the point has been reiterated on his blog and in his column many times.

You sound annoyed he is now London Mayor - as annoyed as the declining number of Labour supporters here in London.
I am glad that, with my vote, I helped remove europhile Livingstone from City Hall
:-).
His defeat at the polls was a great day for a great city.

Thank you for your helpful and speedy reply EA.
Yes - I think Mr. Peter Hitchens has made the points in the quote you give a number of times.
He said the same thing (about the Conservative Party) during his recent appearance (in March I think it was) on Andrew Neil's 'This Week' programme (the one in which Michael Portillo and Dianne Abott MP appear). Although on that occasion he did not mention UKIP.

I am annoyed. He is a moron.
I suppose all up if I had to make a choice I'd probably still take labour over the Tories, but it isn't much of a choice. But Johnson is a complete moron so I definitely would not vote for him.

How do you think the people of London feel after 8 years of europhile Livingstone?
For many it is 13 years if you include the time he headed the Greater London Council (1981 - 1986).
Thank goodness he is no longer Mayor.

The problem is it hasn't improved, it has got worse. Labour are bad, Tories are worse and Boris is just an idiot.

Livingstone's overall vote share in percentage terms is down substantially.
Boris Johnson MP almost doubled the Conservative vote compared to 2004. He also got more first preference votes than europhile Livingstone got first and second preference votes.
Living in Sydney you will not have an idea of the growth in anti-Livingstone feeling in our capital city. There has (quite understandably) always been opposition to him and last week it had reached its highest point since he (unfortunately) become London Mayor in 2000.

In your opinion. On the basis of last Thursdays English (including London) and Welsh local election results Labour are very unpopular - more so than any other big political party.

So? Popularity does not make anything right. It is my opinion and I believe it is correct and I don't modify it because it is not popular.
