Did the NLP actively campaign for Burton out and about? Anyone know if Burton is formally affiliated to the NLP? I find this result very interesting
:-)

There is a third alternative to UKIP or BNP!
Michael Burton stood and won as an Independent candidate!

From the council's website:
Havering - Result of the South Hornchurch Ward By-election, Thursday 3 July 2008

No mention of People's Alliance or NLP. Presumably the above is the way the candidates appeared on the ballot paper?

Michael Burton was definately elected as an Independent councillor, although the miniscule Third Way/National Liberal Party endorsed his candidature. Howver that's like the BNP or UKIP endorsing David Davis in Haltemprice and when he wins then claiming him as one of their own!

Not strictly correct. Mr Burton stood as an Independent but was suopported by an electoral coalition called the Peoples Alliance (not a registered party) which includes the NLP. The latter contributed finance, leaflets, endorsement(s) and activists. No idea how they are outside Havering but they have a larger activist base than the BNP in that particular borough.

Fascinating, but it does raise a few other questions straight away:
1) Was Mr Burton
aware that he was supported by the People's Alliance? Can you provide a link to this effect?
2) Were the people who voted for Mr Burton aware that he was supported by the People's Alliance? Can you provide a link to this effect? You say that the Peoples Alliance distributed leaflets supporting him, but this is meaningless unless we know
how many leaflets.
3) If the answer to question 1 or question 2 is "Yes", then were the people involved (ie Mr Burton or the voters) aware that the People's Alliance incuded the NLP?
4) Do you find it a handicap that your NLP has the same initials as the Natural Law Party?

Tom I'm not the oracle but I have acertained the following:
1) & 2) & 3) The PA is not a registered entity but it's constituent parts including the NLP endorsed him publicly on Mr Burton's own election material via statements etc.
4) Don't think anyone remembers the Natural Law Party and barely would have done so even in its hey-day!
