One of the weak wards in the area, however the party will put in a big campaign and if they win it then the BNP is set to take the borough from Labour in 2010.

From London BNP website, 8th June 2008:
James Webb, Candidate for the BNP in Chadwell Heath Ward in Barking and Dagenham
James Webb is the British National Party candidate for the forthcoming by-election in Chadwell Heath ward in the borough of Barking and Dagenham.
Polling day is July the 3rd.
James previously stood in Village ward in the last round of local elections in 2006 and missed out by a paltry 15 votes. This time we are sure our campaign will get James elected to sit alongside the other 12 BNP councillors in Barking and Dagenham.
Leafleting has already begun and a successful paper sale was held in Chadwell Heath Saturday. The by-election was called when a Labour councillor stood down after she got tired of the infighting in the Labour group in Barking and Dagenham.
The Tories who were soundly rejected throughout the borough in 2006 are standing a candidate. The UKIP candidate is the brother of the Deputy Leader of the Labour Group Liam Smith. UKIP were humiliated in 2006 failing to get a single candidate elected.
James' campaign will focus on the ‘housing crisis’ in Barking and Dagenham. Labours policy of housing immigrants before local people is unjust. Something the BNP will change when it takes control of the council.

My recollection is that actually UKIP did pretty well in B&D in 2006, coming a respectable third in many wards. However, the BNP got a last minute boost from some dim Labour minister who claimed they were a real force locally, thus turning them into a real force locally. The BNP bandwagon rolled and UKIP failed to get any seats. Still, if the BNP are on the wane there, /due to all-round uselessness, and if Labour are just as unpopular as they were in 2006 (or more so) then UKIP could be rather well placed to be the next lucky recipients of a large protest vote. So what can I say but good luck guys!

Wishful thinking on your part Tom. The BNP is expanding as well as consolidating in Barking and Dagenham. There is massive support for the party in the borough, especially among the white working class exodus from the old east end. The only thing that will derail the BNP in B&D is Labour mobilizing the ethnic minorities to vote for them or "any other party".
