Brilliant result for the BNP here, possible seat for us to take in the future.

Also another terrible result for UKIP and an even worse one for the Eng Dems, time for the Eng Dems to pack up shop.

Or for the Eng Dems to merge with the UKIP.

Michael Burton the independent candidate who won was backed by the Party of which I am a member - the National Liberal Party. Michael published a statement of support from the NLP on his election address. The NLP was criticised by some far-right extremists for this as he is Black. We stuck to our guns as we believe that he is the best man for the job. The voters agreed. To their credit the local BNP and their candidate did not make his colour an issue and fought a clean campaign.
I don't think the BNP will win this seat next time. Their resources will be stretched over many wards. Michael is very likeable and competent. As more people meet him through his duties as a Cllr. his support is likely to increase.

The Independent candidate who beat the BNP was backed by the National Liberal Party (NLP). He carried a statement of support from the NLP on his main election leaflet. The fact that the NLP was able to get a black candidate elected in a white working class ward in Essex shows that a positive agenda and hard local campaigning can pay off.
