To be held on 28th August - Rotherham MBC, Wickersley ward.

A Labour seat

Candidates Labour Conservative Liberal Democrat British National Party and UKIP

2008 result Con 1355 Lab 1255 UKIP 879

UKIP got a staggering 25.19% of the vote in this seat in May.

This is a very strong seat for UKIP but what impact will having 3 protest parties have on the result?

The LibDems and BNP didnt stand in May so this is one to keep a very close eye on!

The local election results over the past 3 years show what appear to be an active branch and some very decent results coming second in some seats!

What you say is true, but UKIP is advantaged here by not having another third party that may take similar votes away. It is also standing in some seats where the LibDems don't stand. This is good, but it doesn't hold true everywhere in the country.

All minor parties need to be savvy about who is standing where. Some agents are able to get the "nod" by finding out how many nomination papers have been requested. It is always best to fight local elections where the least number of candidates is standing.

In East Devon, Stuart Hughes, then a Raving Loony, beat the Conservative in a straight fight! I'd suggest UKIP looked up all the uncontested seats from last year and considered these next time round! Could be some surprises.
