Matt O'Connor's announcement 1 week before the London Elections, was damaging to
1) The English Democrats
2) Himself
3) The English Cause

If he had wanted to launch a new "English" Political party, he would have handled the matter in a much better way by letting the 2008 London Elections "go ahead" and then "blame" the result on the way the English Democrats had handled the campaign, as it is, the result achieved was obviously damaged by Matt O'Connors own announcement, and he personally takes the "blame" for the result, it's strange that he had not thought this through.

Matt O'Connor also claimed that the English Democrats had organised "nothing" for St George's day, the truth is that 5 events were organised and took place on 23 April 2008, Matt O'Connor did not show up to the events, and was not contactable, during the day, although he was invited along with all other English Democats members.
Richard Chambers (London Co-ordinator for Fathers 4 Justice & Good Friend of Matt O'Connor), however, did turn up to ALL the events held by the English Democrats on 23 April 2008 > which is why Matt O'Connors claim that nothing took place is even more bizarre.

Matt O'Connor's self confessed "Alcohol problem" is the only explanation for such bizarre behaviour on his part, during the Campaign, which included missing a press event in Dartford, Kent and missing his slot on "BBC Radio London Drive Time", indeed the BBC phoned to complain that he had not turned up for the pre-agreed interview.
His "addiction" to publicity explains his announcement to the BBC on Live Radio, as it served no purpose, it simply damaged, everyone concerned including himself, and let down a large number of people who had put time and money into supporting Matt's London Campaign, for which he was given a virtually "Free Hand" within the limited budget.
