Well, I live in SA so I can tell you that this isn't "xenophobia". Some immigrants have started buying bus tickets home. The violence is fuelled by a long standing problem with the local people competing with immigrants for work. Food prices are high, fuel price is high so taxi and bus fares to and from work are high and many who are involved in the fighting are living in informal settlements and squatter camps so it is the poor who are angry about losing out on the jobs that mean life or death. It can cost a good percentage of a day's hard work's wage just to get home and to work.

Winter is moving in here and in the interior where I am, especially around Johannesburg temperatures at night can go below freezing. People in these camps and settlements compete also for firewood, and buyers for their goods in the hawker trade. If you are shivering in a shack and can manage to get work as a gardener or domestic worker, or have a little stall selling things at a station or taxi rank, the last thing you want to see is a large number of immigrants arrive in your area to compete for these jobs.

It's a matter of life and death and the locals have had this problem for a long time now and are starting to become desperate. The government isn't doing anything to force Mugabe to go so Zimbabwe is simply moving into South Africa, complete with criminal elements and job competition. The crime among residents in camps is high and the people often take the law into their own hands to defend themselves. You can't phone the cops from a piece of land containing a whole lot of shacks made out of cardboard and black plastic sheeting. Those criticising these people must be reasonable. The people aren't exhibiting mere hatred for foreigners; they can't afford such a luxury.

Saying this response is mere "xenophobia" is just a knee jerk left wing response to anything that involves their concept of "racism". It is far more than this. And it is going to get worse.

There is already some pretty high tension here between local tribes, and always has been, as some dominate in the government and practise affirmative action on those from other tribes and races. Nothing here is as simple as the minds of critics overseas who haven't a clue what it's really like. It's no use listening to some deeply concerned left wing BBC reporter who only gives you one side of the story. Here there are always about six sides to every story.

People love to fob South Africa off as a place where whites are all bad and blacks are good and any violence is the result of "xenophobia". As the rest of black Africa is in the throes of continuous inter-tribal warfare and blacks commit crimes against other blacks it seems crazy to keep on with this ancient idea of a few racist Afrikaners still running the show from behind the scenes. There is no such thing. And the present problems are not "the legacy of apartheid" but the legacy of Africa's inability to take its place in the modern world.

Bear in mind that the ANC in South Africa and the Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe were handed perfectly functional first world states on a plate when they changed over and have gone to ruin and in the case of Zimbabwe starvation and tragedy after the evil white men left or were murdered.

South Africa was doing far better under Nelson Mandela than it is now under Mugabe's mate Mbeki. We had an African man and his wife at the gate a week ago asking for money for food for their child because the man had lost his job. He was ranting on about how much he hated Mbeki and the government. We lost our handyman because he has just lost his job because the soap factory he was working in closed down and he was forced to go hundreds of miles home and stay there because he can't survive on the handy man job alone. Do you see now why the locals panic at the prospect of millions of refugees and immigrants from all over Africa coming here and competing for work?

There is no more work for black or white and the situation is worsening because the ANC is useless. People leave the country in planeloads every day. The kennels for quarantining family pets are so full you cannot get your pet in for love or money so many are leaving. This, too, makes jobs scarce as many people supply employment because they have small businesses. But crime is sending everyone out of the country. There is a murder every two hours where I am.

That is just a small part of the story. Worse is to come ...

Yes, I'm telling a minute part of it and from my own point of view as I don't live among the squatters (but there but for fortune, as this can be anyone's fate at any time and there is no welfare net here). However many who pass through our gate or who come there to beg or who just happen to strike up a conversation at a shop or whatever tell us horrific stories of what they are experiencing and there is no reason to disbelieve them as they often come bearing the wounds of attacks.

It isn't only whites who are attacked and so the fact that thousands of Africans, Indians and mixed race people as well as Portuguese, Chinese and anyone else from planet earth who happens to be here are also attacked slips the minds of the reporters completely. That is why we sometimes speak out because the imbalance of reports gives a false image and it is almost inevitable that a reporter will mention the ubiquitous evil whites idea and racism factor that is absent from the crime problem and the rape problem and the attacks. Our handyman I mentioned in the previous post not only lost his job and had to go home to no money and no work but has also been attacked at the taxi ranks and stations a number of times and been beaten up by black thugs. Once so badly that they smashed his front teeth in with a large stone. Ive seen women beaten up by their husbands, a woman who worked for us stabbed with a screwdriver by burglars and her 4 year old son kicked to the ground. Another was bitten by a ferocious step daughter who broke into her cupboard and stole all her clothes and jewellery, then sent thugs round to murder her father. He survived but lost his mind from alcoholism and tried later to kill his wife. A tragedy of domestic abuse that never sees the light of day because reporters are chasing white racists and almost nothing else and blaming Africa's problems on a tiny group of Europeans who are almost all gone and who left behind them first world countries with every chance of greatness. Their only explanation is the endless left wing story of blame. Western lefties hate their own people. That is a fact. They hate their own culture, they hate their own kind and they merely use other races and cultures to further bash their own into extinction. It's a disease and there's no curing it. I'm hoping time will erode it as another generation takes the place of this rather fixated one.

You mentioned power cuts and AIDS: I have mentioned power cuts before on here. They have eased up on this lately as they blew up two sub-stations with the load of sudden stop-start procedures and the "loadshedding" practice was damaging appliances and sending businesses to the brink of disaster. We know of one galvanising plant where we send our stuff that had to spend a million rand on a generator so as not to have the work set in the zinc tanks when the power cut during a working day. :-)

The power cuts are also affecting pumping stations at sewage treatment plants causing sewage laden effluent to leak past into the water system when the pump station suddenly stopped for a power cut. The expert staff who used to man these stations and work across the technical areas of running cities and towns have either left the country or been replaced by affirmative action staff who don't know what to do and so the situation is a disaster compounded by brain drain.

AIDS has become endemic so everyone now just accepts the daily death load of about 600-800 people. The funeral business is booming and there is not enough wood for coffins. Zimbabwe has a similar booming funeral trade. The death of some has become the livelihood of others. Nature compensating again in her inimitable way.

Farm expropriation is another problem as the government copies Mugabe's clumsy land grabs with a land expropriation bill that allows people to "claim" a farmer's land as "ancestral" and then get him off it by paying him a sum (never what it is worth) and doing nothing with it after he leaves. This is causing food production to suffer and if this mad practice goes on we shall become like Zimbabwe.

It is horrific to think of a thriving first world country brought to its knees in about 15 years, but this is what people are saying happens to them all. Things look good while they run off the previous system's momentum and then begin to flag and after about 15 years start grinding to a halt. That is exactly what has happened to Zimbabwe and what is happening to South Africa. It also happened to Mozambique, Angola and Namibia, but people hardly ever mention those. Too busy hunting racists among South Africa's remaining Europeans. The fact that Europeans have absolutely no power in this country and do not in any way run it any more hasn't as yet percolated to the average BBC reporter's addled brain. They are like little critters on a mission and Sky news has become just as bad.

The potential in these countries is still enormous, but it is the Chinese and the Indians and the Arabs who will be colonising it next. Let's see how the BBC lefty journo fares against these. They won't take kindly to being called fascist racist evil doers. But that is a joke we are yet to laugh at. It will take a few years but get your laughing gas out because it will happen.

You just have to be very careful of one thing - it could also happen to Britain.

Tracing those various groups back in time will span across other continents. Then you will have a seperate cluster in someone else's group and that person is related to you. We don't share the same hair colour, characteristics, build, bone, spirituality or mind preferences (such as being

Yes everyone naturally has a territorial instinct. Like a borough or a street, as the same thing occurs. However, within that territory you can have black people with you on your side looking our for you and your children and grandchildren, helping you, aiding you and your friends and supporting you if you should play on a regional team in sport. It occurs within human psyche as well as within animals. People, as well as animals, adopt new blood and accept them as friends and they become a part of the clan.

It's strange how gangs quickly descend to racial lines then isnt it.
America is prime example from street gangs up to the prison system the same patter emerges.
