Breaking news on Sky Television News from America at 2.30 am: Mike Huckabee has quit the contest to be the Republican Party Presidential candidate.
Mr. Huckabee, a Baptist Preacher, said (to a loud cheer) in his withdrawal speech "I want to give a voice to unborn children in this country."
Democrat Billary Clinton has won the Rhode Island Primary vote Sky News also reports.
Sky News also reports that Mr. John McCain (who is to meet President Bush - a supporter - again in The White House later today) has won the Primary vote in Vermont, Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island meaning that he will now definitely be his party's candidate for President (the Sky News website just stated):

Britannist adds: Mr. Huckabee came across as a very pleasant and likeable man and it is good of him to speak for the unborn.

Mr. John McCain, who will be the Republican candidate for the coming American Presidential election (after winning four Primary votes yesterday and following the withdrawal of Republican Mr. Mike Huckabee from the contest) said in a speech at 2.49 am this morning "Gov. Huckabee is a great, fine and decent American."

Was Ron Paul's name mentioned by Sky News. As I understand it Ron Paul may not officially withdraw as he hopes to be able to get some kind of platform at the convention.
He is a canny politician, who may yet endorse McCain but only those policies on which they agree. I think it will be a united Republican party but one with a few months of "negotiating" going on.
Whatever happens, the Ron Paul Revolution continues...............

They stopped mentioning Ron Paul BEFORE the contest had even started, so I doubt they will bother now.
Mind the BBC have started now it is all effectively over, but someone hasn't told them they don't have to lie any more. They are reporting incorrect figures for the amount of delegates paul won. That's the problem with big centrally managed organisations, it takes a long time for commands to get through to the lower levels some times.
