Threat of war as Venezuela and Ecuador order troops to Colombian border | World news | The Guardian
"Colombia's vice president, Francisco Santos, dropped another bombshell at a UN disarmament meeting in Geneva when he said the laptops also revealed the guerrillas were negotiating to obtain radioactive material. "This shows that
these terrorist groups, supported by the economic power provided by drug trafficking, constitute a grave threat not just to our country but to the entire Andean region and Latin America."
[Talk about the pot calling the kettle black !]
He provided
no corroboration, prompting some scepticism that Bogotá may be making extravagant claims to deflect the chorus of criticism from Latin America and Europe over its raid into Ecuador,
a territorial violation for which it has apologised to Quito."
Sounds like more scare mongering and deception from the US-backed columbians and another "war on terror" against Venezuela.
Maybe the columbian rebel "marxist guerrilas" object to the columbian government for some reason... Or maybe the U.S they don't want a sovereign nation like Venezuela, which owns vast oil reserves, to retain it's independence anymore....
It wouldn't be the first time the US have tried to overthrow Chavez or overthrown other independent sovereign nations - not by a long shot....

Rumsfeld: Venezuela's Weapons a Concern
Rumsfeld, in his formal remarks to the gathering, also made a reference to the other main U.S. antagonist in the region: Cuba.
He said he hoped that one day soon "the final holdout in our hemisphere against the
democratic sweep of history will give its citizens the right to choose their own destiny and will participate in our conference."
Rumsfeld also called for more regional cooperation in the
fight against terrorism.
"These new challenges can be solved only if we work together to
protect our free democratic institutions and to provide economic opportunities for our people," Rumsfeld said.

Now this issue is one where I suspect that there may be some “common purpose” between the US and Colombia.
Maybe an agreement by the US at very senior level to “ease off” on the US war on drugs coming out from Colombia in return for Colombia acting at least as an “
agent provocateur” or even as the cutting edge against Chavez and those that support his causes with the US then using what might follow on as a reason to hit Venezuela.
See!
I’ve not got such a closed mind as you probably thought!
