Revealed: Britain's secret propaganda war against al-Qaida | World news | The Guardian

BBC Targeted by Government Propaganda Operation

So what does this actually mean ?

Well firstly it proves that there is government interference on news reporting(well we knew that already :-))

But what about downplaying the role of Al-Quaeda through these independent(cough) news channels ?

Here's my take.......

I think that with the emergence of the internet and information sharing, our gracious powers that be have hit a brick wall in selling the British people the Al-Quaeda threat/lie to the British people and people of the world, so are trying to downplay it's importance in their desire to refocus on another form of control (i.e. global warming, Russian threat etc).

Notice the article says: "The government campaign is based upon the premise that al-Qaida is waning worldwide and can appear vulnerable on issues such as declining popularity"

But wait a minute, if the terrorist threat is to do with "national security" and remains real (as we've been repeatedly told by the government who brought in anti-terrorist legislation), then what the hell has "declining popularity" got to do with it ?
And if they really mean Al-Quaeda support is waning, why are they so keen start a new campaign of media propaganda against a dwindling enemy ? :-)

Could this be more proof the "war on terror" is a hoax and that's why they've chosen to supposedly downplay it's significance now ?

Some other important points from to note here - "with a proposal to "channel messages through volunteers in internet forums" as part of their campaign."

Are you paying attention Clippo, Besoeker, Bear, Unionist, Westcountryman? :-)

But of course there are no propaganda/disinformation agents in forums like this..... :-)

"The strategy is being conducted by the research, information and communication unit, [RICU] which was set up last year by the then home secretary, John Reid, to counter al-Qaida propaganda at home and overseas."

Personally I have never come across any so "Al-Quaeda" propaganda.
Has the average Britain ? Is this just a plain load of bull ?.......

So does this really mean what is says or could "al Quaida propaganda" really mean "alternative media" or "9/11 truth" media ?

Consider this article:

Islamic terrorists could be from any race, warns secret MI5 report| News | This is London
Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!

"Potential Islamist terrorists in Britain are not religious extremists or illegal immigrants, a leaked MI5 report warns."

"They come from ethnic backgrounds as diverse as Pakistani, Middle Eastern and Caucasian."

But caucasian means white !?!!!
So MI5 are saying that these Islamic Al-Quaeda terrorists could be white ?! :-)

And if you read the article, it basically seems to say there is absolutely no "profile" whatsoever in any category. i.e. ANYONE ! :-)

So what does this mean ? If any of you have studied the Patriot Act in America you will see how wide ranging the definition of a "terrorist" actually is.
(listening to jazz ?!)
Consider also how many people have been detained under "The Terrorism Act" for non-terror related incidents and how many people have been put on DNA government databases in this country already too.

Could it well be that anyone voicing dissent against the government could be branded a "terrorist" (and detained, held without rights, tortured etc etc) ?

You better believe it.....

Another important factor here is when they say "We are not claiming victory over AQ. We are stressing their declining support".

i.e. still be frightened of "Al-Quaeda" but realize these "terorrists" have a dwindling following

or alternatively:

No-one wants to be on the "losing team" even though it's actually winning and having a massive effect on public opinion(but of course we'll still say they're not)
So don't listen to these "truthers" - they'll hurt you but really they're numbers are dwindling, but people don't believe us anymore, just stop it, arrgghhh !!! :-)

Oh how convenient. :-)

So anyway, let's assume(for now) the shadowy enemy "Al Queada" actually means you and me, the average dissenting Britain fed up with the government and the corrupt system.

"The Whitehall propaganda unit is collecting material to target these vulnerabilities under three themes. They are that al-Qaida is losing support;[hence the campaign to stop it:-)] "they are not heroes (only corporate icons allowed:-)) and don't have answers; and that they harm you, your country and your livelihood"."

How many times have we seen the same rubbish banded about on this forum too as a last ditch attempt to dsicredit people speaking the truth ? :-)

If they really meant Al-Quaeda and not the alternative truth media would the average Briton really listen to some radical islamic terrorist who supposedly wanted to blow everybody up ? Will that get the support of the masses ?

Seems very doubtful to me - especially as they supposedly want to downplay the effect of Al-Quaeda ? And why would a terrorist affect anyone's "livelihood" ??? :-)

This is a good one to attempt to "de-code" too:

"The document also notes that al-Qaida has to "feed its new franchises with propaganda to keep the 'brand' alive at all costs". It says that it is focused on Palestine - to the discomfort of the Palestinians - because it has failed in Iraq and is now pronouncing on issues as diverse as Egyptian trade unions and climate change in a desperate attempt to remain relevant.

My take/interpretation of what this means is:

"These "truthers" seek to put out "propaganda" to keep their movement going at any cost [yeah right - we're in it for the money :-)] because they exposed how Iraq was a lie and it backfired on us, and are now exposing the myth that is man made global warming and Palestine oppression too. So let's try and put out messages and fake lies through the BBC and internet chatrooms that these Al-Quaeda "conspiracy theorists" are in fact "terrorists", doing it all for money and for the need to still be "relevant" and have an identity(we'll paint them as saddos), but really people shouldn't listen to them, because they're hurting our propaganda machine and we want them to shut up :-)"

Now if you listen to the audio too you will hear the commentator say
"a shadowy whitehall counter-terrorism propaganda unit pushing materials to establish news organizations such as the BBC"

The conversation continues.....

Interviewer: Does the RICU believe that it's tactics are working ? Is Al-Quaeda losing supporters ?

Commentator: Well this is an initiative which is only just starting. This is the first of what it calls a "rolling product" in the terminology of the counter-terrorism experts tailored to in their words and jargon undermine the Al-Quaeda narrative which they need to do with countering it with an alternative narrative"

Hmmmm :-)

So cue Besoeker, the propaganda agents and the kool-aid drinkers to take everything literally and to the letter despite the fact that the commentator said "in their words and jargon" :-)

After all governments say what they mean and mean what they say don't they ? :-)

But to the good and truly patriotic people seeking justice and truth, realize we are hurting their campaign of lies and disniformation very badly indeed ! :-)

A brief moment to take pride in the battle for freedom of this great country against our corrupt government and evil New World Order system :-)

YCHTT, I would argue that delivering a killer blow to a declining terrorist organisation is no bad thing. If that is achieved then we could have some cause for relief.

If al-Qaeda is defeated by targetted propaganda then it will undermine the Bush lies in Iraq and, to a lesser extent, Afghanistan. It could also undermine the US/Israeli propaganda war on Iran.

You won't have experienced al-Qaeda propaganda as I suspect, like most of us in the UK, you don't read Urdu, Arabic or any Afghan language. We just don't stumble across it.

The websites that are being targetted will be in the main languages used by al-Qaeda, not English. You won't encounter the paid or voluntary forum contriutors as BDF is about the last place you would expect to encounter an al-Qaeda operative and convert him from his nefarious activities.

YCHTT, I respect your consistency and devotion to the cause, but I think your take on this one is wrong to a certain extent. Keep up the good work, but don't feed the pigeons!

Have replied in the other thread Aardvark.

I saw this today - more total insanity and the need to create the threat of "white Al-Quaeda"
