The catalyst for the rise of nationalism in Germany in the 30s, was unemployment, inflation, (real inflation, not the manipulated system we have at present) failing banks and businesses and a pizzed off population, boy, are we heading in the same direction.
The main difference is that then, out of nationalism came dictatorship, now, we already have the dictatorship which is breeding nationalism.

It is a result of the failure of the larger parties to protect people. Globalisation damages communities. If there was some other electoral alternative to the mainstream parties, offering a critique / policies to counter the bad effects of globalisation, perhaps the protest voters would go to these. As it is, the nationalists seem to be in the best position to capitalise.

The quantum shift comes when the protest vote spreads out away from just the 'usual suspects' protest voters into the wider society. Once it ramps up beyond the 25% of the poll threshhold, the mainstreamers begin to get panicky. As things are, the main parties have made such a mess of things that it is quite likely the 25% point will be passed.

We see this in things like the Labour Party coming fourth, behind the liberals and the BNP in some elections. So far, it is concentrated on particular towns, and specific electoral wards. It remains to be seen if this effect spreads further.

Sinn Fein and Batasuna are Marxist parties.
Greater Romania Party should be on the list, Aziona Social is now part of the Italian nationalist coalition government and the Spanish Democratic Nationalists are represented by National Democracy.
