Introduce Yourself>Hello from an ex apathetic non-voter
MVW 05:25 AM 26-12-2007
Hi there . My name is Mark ,Im 26 , I live in Manchester and I have never voted in my life. The reason why Im here is because my apathy has recently been cured by ,surprisingly, American Politics ... namely Ron Paul (Im guessing you have heard about him)

Anyway , I'd like to state a little about why I was apathetic 1st and foremost. I think there were 3 main reasons:

- British politics bored the **** out of me, and still does tbh. I found it to be just a bunch of boring old toffs talkin ****.

- I felt that nothing ever changed and nothing really effected my life. So why bother?

-My circle of friends never talked about politics. We were too busy smoking weed, drinking , writing songs and talking about music and football.

Over the course of the last 6 years I have slowly started looking into politics due to "9/11" and getting myself involved in the glorious world of the internet. I have a good example of just how apathetic and ignorant I was by what I said to my mates in the pub just after watching the 2nd plane hit the World Trade Towers on "9/11"..... I said "Well, atleast something is happening in the world" . Obviously I am deeply ashamed of that. It didn't even cross my mind that any people would die. Thats just how self centred and apathetic I was. Since then, I have many a tear watching those towers fall. Anyway, I digress.

I began to become interested in Foreign Policy and Economics as a result of "9/11" and as a result of that the research I did was centred moreso around US politics and political history. Of course , due to the US-UK alliance , the UK's political history and foreign affairs popped up from time to time (eg. Iran and the ousting of Mossadeq / installing of the Shah , for oil)

I must say that still to this day I find US politics much more palatable . I know quite abit about the US constitution and the workings of their Republic but know next to nothing about my own country. Quite embarrassing :-) .

Other than "9/11" the reasons why I became intrigued with US politics is because most of my internet mates are from the US and the continued loss of liberties in the name of security frankly scares me. From my research I stumbled across 3 men who I found myself agreeing with. Milton Friedman , Ludwig Von Mises and Congressman Ron Paul.

With this new found enthusiasm I have managed to talk 90% of my US friends (and their families) into voting for Ron Paul . It didn't take much I have to say. The reasons why I am so enthusiastic about Ron Paul is Foreign Policy, Economic issues and National Security are all very important to me. I don't agree with a few of Ron Paul's PERSONAL views , such as Abortion , but since he leaves it up to the states and local government to decide such issues , I really cant fault him. Its the beauty of their constitution. .

So, I am here because I am looking for a party that holds very similar views to Ron Paul on those 3 issues. I have just found out about The Independence Party , but I cant seem to find their views on such things as Foreign Policy , Economics (sound money) . They seem to be a 1 issue party . The issue being the EU. I find it an important issue , sure , but I'd love some help in finding a party that suits my views.

If you have read this far I apologize for the poorly written essay. I appreciate your patience :-)

I was going to edit this into my original post but I see there is a 15 minute limit:

In a nutshell I dont believe in "spreading Democracy" thro' a barrel of a gun. I'm for real free trade and diplomacy with ALL nations. Economically I believe money should be backed to keep the Government in check and protect the the poor and middle class' from inflation. The Income Tax is an abomination. I will never support a party who supports the income tax. I believe strongly in freedom . Freedom means you can do anything you want aslong as you don't infringe on another persons rights. As a result people are free to make bad decisions aswell as good ones. I don't agree that the government should be dictating morals. Some drugs are bad for your mental health , yes.... but so are some books. Should books be made illegal? and if so which ones? and who gets to decide?

Im sure I just posted this but when i went to view it ...it wasnt there :S

Im not spamming if it turns up again :-)

Welcome to the forum MVW!
The EU is by far and away Britain's biggest stumbling block, it is the Elephant in the corner who's influence on British politics has so far been successfully hidden from "Joe and Jane public" by politicians from the three main political party's. The unelected political elite sitting in Brussels govern Britain with British Politicians sitting in Westminster have been reduced to being nothing more than highly paid EU administrator's implementing laws made in Brussels.
For Britain to get back to being a self governing Nation again, we have to leave the EU. People on this forum and others can debate policies as much as they like, but those policies can never be implemented until we leave the EU! The UK Independence Party (ukip) is the only non racist party with a serious chance of getting this message across! Go to ukip.org to find out more or phone head office (after the holidays) for an information pack on 01626 831 290
