Hello all,
Thought it proper to introduce myself to you before getting down to the postings. I'm from Ireland (the south) and I've a general interest in politics and history (British Isles mostly). I say general because I wouldn't consider myself a "politico" really. I've become very skecpital towards the EU after living for sometime in Europe. I'd be of the opinion that I'd like to see Britain and Ireland develope the idea of the British Irish Council or Council of the Isles as a federation, and move further and further away from Europe who I see as having zero in common with the peoples of these islands, culturally or any other way. I wouldn't like to see the British way of life getting dilouted into some kind of pan Europeanism. I'd also like to think that this development f the Council of the Isles would prevent any further disolution of the United Kingdom and inturn strenghten the already existing United Kingdom and it's links with the RoI.
Anyhoo, nice to be here!

Hello,
Nice to have you aboard. Will you be voting 'no' in the coming referendum on the Lisbon Treaty then?

Aye, of course. For whatever good it'll do. Brussles won't be recognising any referendum over here so in the event of a No victory it'll be interesting to see how it's handled.

Nice to have you along.
I think the British and the Irish always got on on the whole it was the political leaders who bread fear and mistrust and war between the two countries.
Personally I'd be well up for Britain and Ireland putting aside it's age old differences and getting on with the future.
Whats the general kind of view with the EU over there.

Welcome aboard. I hope the people of Ireland realise the EU for the con that it is and vote to stay in charge of their own affairs.

I like the idea of more ties with the ROI. Welcome.

Since the RoI dragged itself out of the mess it called independence and sucked as much out of Europe as possible, the whole attitude to the EU is slowly hitting the downward slope it would seem. It's never easy gaging political opinion in that subject here though. Especially when our political masters do things like have a second round of voting everytime people tell them to shove some new EU law
:-)
Who knows whats in the future though! Glad Britian still has some backbone though, compared to the rest of us. Less you're involved the less we'll be

You play right into the hands of the EU with that kind of attitude.
As long as it keeps the Eurosceptics of Europe divided through differences of race, religion, and history, they just take the fear and use it to take power.
Divide and conquer.

I don't think it's back bone. It's not easy to fight a battle when your own media and government work for the opposition wile claiming they're acting in your interest.
