Hi! I am known here as Happysmoker - guess why?? I have joined up because of the news re David Davis - but aren't we all fed up with the blatent erosion of our liberties and rights (hard fought for over the centuries) whilst being forced to live under a despotic regime. I won't get on my high horse here but I do enjoy a good rant from time to time.

Whenever I see someone claim that we live under a 'despotic regime', I'm torn between crying and saying that they should go live in Nazi Germany, where they will no doubt fit right in since this country is apparently sharing many of its key characteristics. :-)

Not to be critical of the intent of your message, as I agree with it, but no-one can go live in Nazi Germany since it no longer exists. :-)
Perhaps Zimbabwe would be a better, modern, example.

Oh come on, be realistic. We all talk about police state but this country is a shining example of freedom in comparison to some despotic regimes. We are heading their way though.

Yes - the problem is the measures put in place and the rights and customs which have been removed open the door to a highly repressive society, just waiting to be taken advantage of by the wrong person [perhaps/probably already].
