Certainly. I have some of my father's guns in the UK; legally of course. They aren't the kind you carry around though, but I'd feel alot safer with a nice 9mm, particularly in big cities at night.

Yes agreed but I would also like to see those who are prepared to murder which in carrying a knife you are ,locked up,we have to get the weapons off the steets.

There are ways of defending and protecting yourself without guns and knives.

Not really, unless you are very fit, very lucky and are either very good at parkour or a champion at unarmed combat.

How else does one defend oneself against even unarmed attackers who outnumber and there is no real way to escape them by running or calling for help?

Dont put yourself in the situations where you are vunrable,use a bit of common sense. Be streetwise,pepper spray,rape alarms (arnt just for women) and yes take some self defence/unarmed combat lessons it will keep you fit and give you confidance.

For someone not very large (such as myself), learning self defence might not be the best option. :-)

Those are all good suggestions and I tend to do most of it but it is far from fullproof.

I'd add parkour or freerunning into that but even then you can still be attacked, outnumbered and can't get away and then a gun is a useful aid.
