Liberal Democrat General Issues>Liberal Dims are 'useless' and 'unreliable' says anti-EU MEP
Britannist 09:11 AM 23-09-2006
Jim Allister, the popular Northern Ireland member of the EU ‘Parliament’, said on 21.9.2006 of the Liberal ‘Democrats’ “The (europhile) Lib ‘Dems’ are renowned over at Westminster as being unreliable allies in political fights, and once again they bottled it when it counted as they always do. It is no wonder that they are described as the ‘useless Liberals’ over in the Commons.”

Mr. Allister, who is a member of the Dr. Paisley’s strongly eurosceptic Democratic Unionist Party was criticising the Liberal Dims for backing down from opposing Blair Labour Government legislation which would prohibit selection in schools. Mr. Allister signed a letter to the Times newspaper (in the same week that he made the above comments) with Nigel Farage MEP, leader of the anti-EU UK Independence Party, in which they (and some Conservative MPs) called on the UK Government not to give up the British veto in the EU on Justice and Home affairs.

* David Banks wrote on the Conservative Home message board on 21.9.2006 at 6.53 pm of the Liberal Dim Party leader Sir Menzies Campbell (who likes to be called "Ming" for some reason) “This Ming bloke’s as boring as Emmerdale  . Whatever happened to all those thrilling gay sex / drinking / male prostitutes / etc. leadership gaffes that made the Lib ‘Dems’ exciting and electable. They've just gone all stodgy again :-) .”
