Amanda Platell, the former political assistant to ex-Conservative leader William Hague (when he ran his ‘Save The Pound’ campaign as opposition leader), wrote in her Daily Mail column today (4.11.2006 on page 17) “The sanctimonious former Liberal Democrat leader Charles said that on the tombs of this Prime Minister will be the words ‘Iraq’. Yes. And on Kennedy’s will be ‘mine’s a double’.”

She's probably right in so much as that's what he'll be remembered for, but it's pretty low to mock someone for being an alcoholic. Granted I don't expect much from Amanda Platell.

I would just mention that Amanda Platell may be aware that the Liberal Dims are the most vile political party in the Commons - and one with a stinking reputation for playing dirty (especially at election time). In view of that, she might have decided that they deserve to be mocked.
Let's not forget that many 'activists' in the fanatically pro-EU and pro-euro Liberal Dim 'party' would be the very first to mock, ridicule and campaign against a candidate from an opposing party if s/he were exposed as an alocoholic or former alcoholic.

Thank you for your support Kernow. The Liberal Dims deserve a taste of their own medicine.
The view of many is don't attack someone in another party over an alleged drink problem. But the Liberal Dims are fair game since they have no standards as a party in their campaigning and electioneering.

Senior LIb Dems, including at least all those who stood in their Leadership election, knew that Kennedy had serious drink problems and they all conspired to cover it up, up to and during the General Election 2005.
Another case of Party before Country. Party before the interests of the electorate.
The sooner the electorate are made more fully aware of the deceit and EU ambition of this Party the better. If mocking is what it takes so be it.

Absolutely agree with what you say Colin. The first target of UKIP should be the Liberal Dims. They are only the 'third party' in the Commons because no one has, so far, got together a serious challenge against them. As you say, the voters must be made aware of what the Liberal Dims are really all about - they stand for the EU; are the EU's political arm in the UK and will use dirty tricks to try to win seats at election time.

Don't forget drinking too much, smoking and taking drugs are all self inflicted, none of these habits are compulsory! I drink (not heavily) was up until 6 years ago a life long heavy smoker (40+ per day} but I have never taken recreational drugs, ( oh, I once smoked a "funny fag"!) So I feel no sympathy for people who drink, smoke or take recreational drugs!
