If the LibDems dumped Ming and put a strong leader in place their opinion poll rating would jump the tories vote would slump - as liberal tories jumped ship back to the LibDems and project Cameron would come off the rails!

Exactly. But I don't like jokes about the man's age. It's not entirely his fault their vote is down in the latest polls - the anti-Iraq 'war' protest vote which the Dim Libs were lucky to get in the first place is going back to Labour, and there's not much Sir Menzies or anyone else in his nasty party can do about it :twisted: .

Just think how many votes the europhile Liberal Dims would lose if voters knew how fanatically pro-EU and pro-EU they really are :!: :-)

Why's he stll a member of the Dim Libs? A year ago they treated him disgracefully - using his alleged drink problem to kick him out of the leadership after he'd won lots of seats in two elections.

His majority in the beautiful constituency he represents (which includes scenic Fort William) is so large he could easily ditch the Liberal Dims and win the seat next time as an independent.

Most people, if they'd been treated by their party as he was, would leave it in disgust.

I can assume that, whatever he says, he's hanging around to get the leadership back - or to try to get a job in a Brown-led minority Labour Government (or both).

On that we are agreed although I wouldnt describe Charles Kennedy in the way you have done.

I think the Lib Dems will rue the day they got rid of Kennedy, speaking to a lot of younger voters where I live they appeared to have a great deal of respect for him because rightly or wrongly they thought him to be one of them.

Yes, I think you may have. This person hiding behind the name 'Basildon Boy' was very rude to me the other day in one of the threads on Celebrity Big Brother - s/he swore at me for no good reason. 'Basildon Boy' has a history of making such unprovoked and unpleasant postings in response to mine. I would like to think that s/he is not, in fact, a member of UKIP despite their claim to be so.

I understand that 'Basildon Boy' was once in that nasty europhile party known as the Liberal 'Democrats'. I was not surprised to learn this.
