From the official website:

Commenting on today’s [Wednesday] Public Accounts Committee report on the Academy schools programme, Liberal Democrat Shadow Children, Schools and Families Secretary, David Laws MP said:
"This report indicates that there are serious concerns about the financial management of the Academy programme.
"It is simply not possible to efficiently run hundreds of schools from Whitehall.
"Many academies suffered massive cost overruns and there are real concerns that future problems will either prove unaffordable or will squeeze out much needed investment in the thousands of other schools in the country.
"With the massive expansion of the Academy programme there is an urgent need to reconcile more choice and innovation in the education system with reduced central Government control."
