I second the above.

Very well put, Arden. :-)

Ever since the war the Liberal party has increasingly moved towards a pan-European agenda. It was inadvertantly assisted in this drift by the loss of its 'patriotic' wing in the 30's.

Clegg typify's its pro-EU leadership, urbane, professional politician and EU carearist. Popularism (as a last resort) saw them supporting a referendum on European issues. Once the stark reality, of having a referendum that might see his beloved EU being given a bloody nose, became clear he was always going to frustrate that possibility. However his latest blunder has served merely to highlight their hypocracy over the Lisbon Treaty rather than divert everyone's gaze. The first real challenge for his leadership and he has failed miserably. Perhaps the merciless Ming had an inkling into the future?

Britannist, hello my friend! I noticed you changed Wislon to Wilson. This wasn't an error on my part, although it may have looked like it. Wislon was the name Private Eye came up with. It had a sort of devious ring to it! Suited a devious mind, they thought.

Hello Arden.

I wasn't actually aware that Private Eye called former Labour Prime Minister Wilson Wislon.

Do you remember, Arden, how Private Eye sometimes used to call Lady Thatcher Hilda (her middle name) or Tina (which stood for the first initials of those famous words of hers: "There Is No Alternative")?

I saw europhile Clegg interviewed on last night's Newsnight. I thought that, when being questioned by Jeremy Paxman, he appeared nervous (i.e. defensive and not smiling).

I have not been impressed by any of his contributions to Prime Minister's Question Time so far.

His opportunistic pro-EU party is going to lose some seats at the next General Election :-) whatever they say to try to avoid that happening.

'Bring it on' as they say.
