So what? No doubt Devonshire County Council would secure a similar result for Devonshire.

Perhaps Cornish citizens thought they were supporting a regional assembly? If so, it would call into question the alleged opposition to the EU which is vigorously promoting these assemblies! :-)

The results of the poll are contested. The District Councils (which are facing the axe due to the Unitary Authority coming into being next year) conducted their own polls, which showed massive opposition.

It really wouldn't. Cornish 'nationalism' is restricted to miners and ne'er-do-wells. There isn't much appetite for it - you'd probably have to go to the far-flung western villages to find people sympathetic to the cause.

An anti-immigration and anti-EU Nationalist party would likely take 20% of the Cornish vote in it's first attempt.
Even back in 1979 on a similar manifesto it took 10%.
