Blimey! :-) But then, if they were truly liberal or libertarian, they would hate the EU in its present form like poison. It is anathema to people who promote liberty. So your numbers, Danny, make sense in this regard. Besides, it's good to see the liberals are beginning to act like their definition and aren't tagging along behind the socialists and joining silly think tanks full of middle class ego-merchants. :-)

frith I think the elections just gone the liberals returned quite a few councillors not sure on numbers.Perhaps a liberal member on here could confirm this.They have a good range of councillors right across the country as well.I am very surpraised that no other Anti EU party hasnt at least worked with them to learn the art of local campaigning.UKIP could at least learn something from them.As the saying goes put your eggs into one basket and maximise your resources.

I think some groups are going to sleep, Danny. But as the liberals have been asleep for so long while everyone else was awake maybe they have become conscious while others are going comatose. If they seize the day it may be because they saw the early worm wriggling. :-)

You understand I am a new member, so I am still learning.

The 'Who we are' section gives a list of the 30 Councillors. They do work with the ED's and are prepared to work with other anti EU parties - it was this fact that particularly drew me to the party.

It is true that they had supported the concept of the EU, but have always maintained it should be based on the concept of a 'Commonwealth of Europe' - which would not include political or economic union [as is the wish of the majority] so they are vehemently against the European Superstate that the LT is designed to establish.

Thanks for that.I do feel the other parties have much to learn from the local campaigns.where the liberal party have gained councillors.But other parties always seem to know whats best.If people dont catch themselves on what chance have any of us got.??

I am very much of the view that unless the eurosceptic parties do work together - there is little chance of our changing our relationship with the EU.

If that does not happen and the European Superstate becomes fully formed - there is very little chance of these parties treasured policies ever being implemented.

Here here I am at one with you on this.There are so many splinter parties now I have lost count.Everytime somebody dosnt like something .They go off in a huff and start there own party.I think the game is up unless parties like UKIP are prepared to work with like minded people and parties.

I make that seven holds and two seats lost. However, one of the losses was a councillor who had only defected from the LibDems three weeks earlier, in a LibDem safe seat.

Most of the seven holds were pretty respectable. Overall it wasn't a bad result, but it would have been nicer to have actually gained some seats!
