Has anybody said exactly how much money was wasted? £5? £500? £1,000,000? Because of all the fuss I'm assuming the Tories think it cost 7 heart surgeries and an old people's home!
Making a like that takes a little effort from one person, so let's say it's a couple of hours of somebody's wage and we're talking a few notes. On the positive side the government, often accused of being inhuman and not engaging with the populace, should be applauded for using modern communication methods and humour to reach out to the population.
Less fuss & nonsense please.

I liked the fact that 50,000 would sign a petition requesting JC to be made PM.

Can't remember anything similar - indicates what voters think of the current crop of politicians!

The point is those few notes aren't theirs to waste.

And that really is the heart of the problem with this Government.

I agree. Those few notes could well mean life or death to some poor sod who is being taxed to death.

It wasn't even funny. In fact, I think it was rather crass. If the government/civil service is so proud of their achievement, why disable the comments?

As for the use of "modern communication methods" to "engage with the populace" - I'd really rather the government didn't bother.

Politicians aren't 'modern' and they certainly aren't 'trendy'. This is woefully demonstrated by idiots sitting in the Commons bemoaning computers, the internet and computer games for the ills of society (eg. I once saw an MP moan about the amount of pornographic material on the internet, calling for regulation - which was a bit rich, given the filth they allow to be printed in the tabloids, certain magazines etc.)

Um? Shouldn't somebody point out that Mr Clarkson has to stand for Parliament, be voted into office by the electorate then become PM, presumably with the (unlikely) collaboration of a majority of MPs in the House.

I find the possibility so staggeringly remote that I regard a single penny spent by the government on this vapid campaign as a waste.

Still, I reckon it shows how terrified they really are of genuinely populist politics. :-)
