That was in 2002. The figures today are probably higher.

The same report also notes that black British "nationals" (key word here) also account for 13% of remand population and 21% of fine defaulters. It also states that black females account for FORTY FIVE % of those sentenced for drug offences compared to 25% for white females. And, I presume that that is only for those classed as "British nationals", not those of non-white foreign nationals arrested, which must by now be considerable.

From Black History Month: Home (!!!):

"There are 2.3 million Black, Asian and Minority Women (BAME) in the UK, making up just under 4% of the total population of the UK. In 2002 BAME women made up less than 8% of the total female population of the UK but accounted for close to 31% of female prisoners. Black women are over-represented in prison. Black female prisoners make 26.4% of female prisoners while black males account for 24% of male prisoners. Black British women in prison make 11.6% compared to only 2% of all British women. British Asian women prisoners make 4% of the female prison population. There is a high number of foreign national prisoners and at present 1 in 5 women in prison are foreign nationals. Foreign national prisoners come from 168 countries (Jamaica, The Irish Republic, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey and India). A quarter is Jamaicans by far the largest group."


Note that this report states that the BAM (black Asian and minority - what type of minority is not stated) female population in the UK.

From Telegraph.co.uk, News, Sport, Business 05.11.06:

"An estimated 135,000 black males aged 15 to 34 will be entered in the crime-fighting- database by April, equivalent to as many as 77 per cent of the young black male population in England and Wales. By contrast, only 22 per cent of young white males, and six per cent of the general population, will be on the database."


The propensity for black male and female crime is not just a figment of some one's imagination, it is a FACT.

Who knows if this is an accurate story or more BBC spin and pro-police state propaganda.....

"Two police officers were attacked by a mob in south London when they asked a 15-year-old girl to pick up some litter she dropped."

I could be wrong but people don't normally react with violence when asked to pick up litter - their report doesn't seem to add up.

How do we know the police didn't instigate the incident ? We don't.

I'm not saying it isn't true but the fact the BBC gloss over the incident with the most minimal of detail should make people question if the true facts of the incident are being accurately and impartially reported by the BBC (ahem....)

People get wound up sometimes and I'm not surprised. If the Police were hassling me over a piece of litter I'd be rather annoyed. It doesn't perhaps excuse attack, but I'm not a fan of the great and basically unique power the police have in society, no wonder as Kernow says they act like dictators.

If you've dropped litter it's only right that the police challenge you over it. Littering is not only illegal but it's inconsiderate towards the other people who have to use that park/street/area.

Challenge is the operative word. You can bet these police were adversial and hostile from the start. Littering is not good but it is not the crime of the century and tack should be used. Police don't tend to know the meaning of the word.

Why without question? Are we not allowed to question the police now? Is it America where you'll be tasered fifty times if you dare to talk back.

If it wasn't my litter for a start I would not pick it even if the police asked me too.
